National charity Abigail’s Footsteps held a ‘Ladies Lunch’ in the Astor Wing of Hever Castle on Tuesday 9th December to raise awareness of its important work providing support for families and healthcare professionals dealing with still birth bereavement.
Founded by Jo and David Ward after their daughter Abigail Rosie-Ann was tragically stillborn, the charity seeks to improve the bereavement training that midwives and care staff receive, and to improve the quality of supportive information that families are given if their loved one suffers a stillbirth.
Hosted by the charity’s patron Lady Astor of Hever, there were 64 guests on the day including many notable figures. Vice Presidents of the charity Julie Etchingham, presenter on ITV News at Ten and Cheryl Baker, former Buck’s Fizz singer, were both in attendance.
Guests also included Karen Millen, designer and women’s clothing retailer; Laura Wright, English soprano; Moira Cameron, the first female Beefeater at the Tower of London; and Louise Giblin, a local sculptor who displayed some of her work in the Inner Hall of Hever Castle for the day.
A private guided tour of Hever Castle was enjoyed by the guests before a stunning recital by opera singer Laura Wright and a sumptuous lunch in the Tudor Suite Dining Room of the Astor Wing. BBC Newsroom South East also attended to film Julie Etchingham interview Moira Cameron.
