Amen Corner at Hever Castle Golf Club

Have you tackled the challenge of Kent’s own Amen Corner? This stunning section of course can make or break your round!

Before your next visit to the club be sure to watch the stunning footage (above) taken from an aerial drone which shows the 11th, 12th and 13th holes of the Championship Course and see how they compare to the original Amen Corner in Augusta, home of the US Masters.

The trio of holes at Hever Castle Golf Club have been dubbed Amen Corner over the years by golfers due to their similarity to the American course. They both have a par 4, a par 3 and a hole over water.

Head Pro Peter Parks commented, “It’s a lovely comparison to make because they are comparing us with three of the most famous holes in the world. They do have some similarities to the Augusta course.

“It’s certainly a special part of the golf course and they are very memorable holes! They are tricky but it’s a nice opportunity to play some of the most picturesque holes in the county.”

Our Members’ Thoughts on Amen Corner

We invited members of Hever Castle Golf Club to share their comments on this infamous section of the course:

James Liu said, “Amen corner: a decent birdie opportunity on the par 5 10th will lure you into the dangers that lie ahead around Amen Corner, a stretch of three short holes that provides the fairest of challenges a golfer expects from a top quality course; but be wary, it can ruin the best of cards. There is no place for conservative play; accuracy, in both distance control and direction, is the only answer.”

Echoing these sentiments, Nigel Poore commented, “The next three holes [Amen Corner] can truly make or break your round as you negotiate various water hazards, narrow fairways and undulating greens. There is little time to soak up the stunning scenery and majestic layout of the course, as every shot truly counts. … Coming off the 13th with a par can be considered an achievement.”

Robert Crawley added, “Having been a member at Hever for ten years, I still get inspired every time I play these holes.”

James Liu concluded, “Leaving Amen Corner with your score still intact will elevate your confidence for the closing stretch home. Failing that, there’s always the well-deserved drink awaiting you in a welcoming Clubhouse.”

A Final Word…

We’ll leave you with one last member submission on Amen Corner by Paul Cronin:

Our course, which art in Hever,
Hallowed be thy turf.
The back nine comes.
Thy will be done in water,
As it is in plenty

Give us this day our share of birdies
And forgive us our gimme on 11
As we forgive those who mulligan on 12
Lead us not into 13’s deep water
And deliver us from trees
For we drive for power and putt for glory
Forever at Hever, Amen
