The employees at Hever Castle love autumn in the grounds, and Chief Executive Duncan Leslie is no exception; we asked him his thoughts on autumn at Hever Castle.
When discussing this time of year at Hever, Duncan enthused: “I love all the different colours of the trees and the fact that they change every week, and that some years you get completely different colour schemes from other years.”
Identifying the Lake as a special area, particularly when the weather is lovely, he went on to mention the stunning reflections of the trees on the water and the interesting waterfowl that over winter here.
Referring to Lake Walk, Duncan commented: “the view across to the golf course and the changing colour of the trees is particularly striking against the manicured grass of the fairways and greens.”
With many other parts of the grounds looking stunning at this time of the year, Duncan recommended heading to the area between Golden Stairs and Two Sisters’ Pond to see “several really impressive acers that turn the most amazing colours.”
Reflecting on previous autumns, he mused “I have very fond recent memories of my children dancing through the freshly fallen leaves and looking to see who can find the biggest horse chestnut, which – when looked at closely – have the most amazing mix of rich swirly browns.”
He finished by summing up autumn at Hever Castle as “magical, surprising and uplifting.”
