Message from the organisers of the Triathlon & Multisport Festival at Hever Castle
(updated: 14:30 Friday 27 September).
2024 EVENT UPDATE: Please note that the swim sections of the 2024 event have been cancelled due to unsafe lake water.
GENERAL STATEMENT
Castle Race Series have made the difficult decision to cancel all swim segments for the event taking place on 28-29 September at Hever Castle following the meeting of their Swim Advisory Committee on Thursday 26 September. This decision has been made in the best interest of participant health and safety following the wettest September on record in Hever. The heavy rainfall over the past week has led to high levels of overspill and run-off being discharged into Hever Lake. Multiple water quality tests have been conducted, and the most recent results indicate the lake is unsafe to swim in.
The format of participants races will alter where a swim was to be included; triathlons will change to a duathlon format (run/bike/run) and aquabikes and aquathlons will become single discipline events. We regret that all Swim Series events will be cancelled. We understand how disappointing this news will be, especially given the training and preparations participants will have done for the swim section of their race, but the safety and well-being of participants is always the top priority. We look forward to welcoming you to Hever this weekend for what promises to be a great event, despite this unexpected change.
CAR PARK
Please note that parking for the event will be in a field, which is likely to be wet underfoot despite the forecast of dry weather during the event itself. To accommodate this, Castle Race Series have ordered additional car park tracking to assist with parking, but recommend allowing additional time for this process. Event staff will be on hand to assist should any vehicles require help.
We suggest that you and your spectators come prepared with suitable wet weather footwear. If you are participating in what was originally a triathlon (now reconfigured to a duathlon), we recommend bringing two pairs of trail shoes, if available.
CAMPERS
Due to the heavy rainfall over the past week the campsite is fairly wet. We would recommend additional under tent protection if you have this available. If possible we would recommend that campers place a durable tarp or groundsheet underneath your tent to prevent moisture from seeping up. Ensure that it doesn’t extend beyond the edges of the tent, as this can collect rainwater. If possible, use two layers—a groundsheet under the tent and an additional one inside as a barrier.
Around the campsite will be muddy so we suggest you bring wellies. The camp manager will be onsite should you require any assistance.
Please use the “Event Information” button on the Castle Race Series website for further information. Please do not call or email Hever Castle for further information regarding this event.
