Hever Castle’s renowned historian, Dr Owen Emmerson, will be sharing fascinating stories, rare discoveries and unique insights during a special talk on Sunday 1st March.
In a fundraising event on behalf of The Festival Theatre at Hever Castle, visitors can enjoy a cream tea on the Hever estate as well as hearing Dr Emmerson’s talk.
It takes place at 4pm, in The Guthrie Pavilion Restaurant, and those attending are invited to arrive from 3pm for a walk around Hever’s award-winning gardens beforehand.
Ailsa Molyneux, Theatre Director, said: “This fundraiser is going to be a highlight of our year, and we are hugely grateful to Dr Emmerson, one of the busiest historians on the planet, for finding the time offer us a brand new talk on the Castle he has adored from a very young age.”
Dr Emmerson (pictured below) will share long-overlooked details that recent research has brought to light, revealing more about the Castle’s intriguing and often surprising past.
He will explore how new findings are reshaping our understanding of the Castle’s architecture and the people who lived, worked and made plans within its walls.
Ailsa added: “This promises to be an afternoon of good company, memorable conversation and a rare glimpse behind the scenes of Hever’s evolving story.”
An author, broadcaster and Assistant Curator at Hever, Dr Emmerson has contributed to a number of documentaries, including BBC2’s The Boleyns: A Scandalous Family, Channel 5’s Lady Rochford and BBC1’s Who Do You Think You Are? He was a historical consultant on the BBC adaptation of Hilary Mantel’s Wolf Hall: The Mirror and the Light.
This fundraiser event is generously supported by Dr Emmerson and the Hever Castle Curatorial Team, as well as by Hever Castle & Gardens and Visual Elements Ltd.
