GOLF CLUB RAISES £5,844 FOR HOMELESS CHARITY

June 16 2020 | Golf

Almost £6,000 has been raised for Porchlight, Kent’s largest homeless charity. Porchlight was Hever Castle Golf Club Captains’ charity for 2019/2020.

The number of people rough sleeping in Kent has doubled in the past three years. Porchlight currently has 159 rooms across Kent where people can stay for up to two years. They offer a free 24 hour helpline and have a number of outreach workers who work in the community supporting rough sleepers. They support nearly 5000 people a year.

This week Alan Evans presented Rachel van Hoven, Head of Fundraising at Porchlight with a replica cheque for the sum of £5844.

Rachel acknowledged that “support is needed more than ever. During lockdown, Porchlight was able to help 130 individuals who were rough sleeping into temporary accommodation and are now working hard to ensure they continue to have somewhere safe and stable to live. In fact over the last 12 months the charity has taken over 1000 referrals from people who were rough sleeping in the county, Additionally it is likely that there will soon be a rise in rough sleepers as those on low income with poor health and insecure housing are pushed into homelessness as a result of the Covid outbreak”

The previous captains, Alan and Anne J, would like to thank all members and Hever Castle Golf Club staff who supported the homeless charity and wish all an enjoyable and healthy golf season in 2020.
