New club captains at Hever Castle Golf Club for 2022/23 Mike Swan and Paula Stack announced their charities at the Drive-In on Sunday 10 April 2022.
Men’s Captain Mike Swan is raising money for DEBRA. DEBRA is the national charity that funds research and healthcare to support individuals and families affected by Epidermolysis Bullosa (EB). Their vision is of a world where no one suffers from the painful genetic skin blistering condition, EB. which, in the worst cases, can be fatal.
Delayed by a year and a half. Mike’s challenge is to cycle from Caen in Northern France to Nice in 10 days covering 853 miles and taking in the iconic Tour de France climb of Mont Ventoux on Day 8, a mere 9842ft of climbing and followed by an equally stunning day climbing the Gorges du Verdon at 8656ft. In total they will climb 60298ft.
The challenge begins on Wednesday 4th May and finishes in Nice on Friday 13th, hopefully not an unlucky omen!
Mike chose this charity because of the devastating effects this has on the patients and their families and after many years of supporting Debra events.

Donating through JustGiving is simple, fast and totally secure. Once you donate, they’ll send your money directly to DEBRA, so it’s the most efficient way to give – saving time and cutting costs for the charity.
Ladies Captain Paula Stack’s chosen charity is Compaid which helps disabled, older and other vulnerable people to overcome the barriers of social and digital exclusion, and to live their lives to the full.
Each year, thousands of people use Compaid’s digital skills training and accessible transport services in and around the South East of England.
Working in partnership with local authorities, housing associations, job centres and other charities, their staff and volunteers change lives for the better every day.
Over the years, Hever Castle Golf Club’s captains have raised thousands of pounds for a wide variety of charities. You can find out more about the some of the money raised here:
