Hever Castle features in the opening episode of a new Paul O’Grady TV show showcasing the county of Kent.
With Foreign breaks out of the question Paul O’Grady’s Great British Escape sees him exploring his adopted home county’s scenery, wildlife and history.
As part of the piece on Hever Castle, Dr Owen Emmerson, Castle Supervisor talks to Paul about the history of the childhood home of Anne Boleyn and Paul gets stuck into some topiary trimming with Head Gardener Neil Miller.
The opening episode of the new six part series on ITV1 also sees Paul fly a Tiger Moth plane, learn about hop production and visit Eagle Heights Wildlife Foundation.
Paul says: “I was born in a quaint little hamlet called Tranmere in Birkenhead and when I grew up I emigrated down south and had quite a good fling with London for a few years. Then I found myself down here in Kent and I’ve been here for over 20 happy years, I love the place.”
“Kent is known as the garden of England but her beauty has been slightly tarnished lately because all you hear about Kent is lorry parks and operation stack on the M20. I think it’s about time Kent was given a fair hearing because there’s some lovely stuff down here and a hell of a lot I haven’t seen, you know.”
Paul O’Grady’s TV show called Great British Escape starts at 8pm on Wednesday 11 November on ITV1.
Filming took place at Hever Castle during September with a crew from Olga TV visiting.
