Visitors to Hever Castle’s Dazzling Daffodils event raised over £2,000 for Marie Curie as part of its Great Daffodil Appeal 2022.
Those who pre booked to visit the stunning gardens awash with spring colour were given the option to add on a donation or buy a daffodil pin on site.
There were also special daffodil cupcakes for sale in the Restaurants with the sales from the sweet treats going to Marie Curie.
A total of £2,330.62 was raised for the charity.
Held every spring, the Great Daffodil Appeal is when millions of people across the UK come together to volunteer, fundraise, donate and wear a daffodil pin so that Marie Curie Nurses can give vital care to people living with a terminal illness and their families.
Faye Kelly, Head of Visitor Services at Hever Castle: “We were delighted to partner with Marie Curie during our Dazzling Daffodils event. The support they give to the terminally ill and their families in invaluable and we were hugely proud to have them here at Hever Castle, promoting the charity and the work that they do.”
Nurse Daly, a Registered Nurse at the Marie Curie Hospice, Liverpool, said: “Being a Marie Curie nurse is not like any other job in the health sector because it’s about taking care of terminally ill patients. It’s about making their time a priority and also comfortable for them to live their last days and hours in peace and with dignity.”
“It’s very important to support the Great Daffodil Appeal as we need more people to know about the work of Marie Curie and raise as much funds to help continue with the work we do. It takes a lot of resources to provide this care, so the support and funding is very important.”
“For me, being at a person’s bedside in their final hours is a privilege. My daffodil is for better end of life care.”
As well as discovering more about Marie Curie, visitors were invited to get up close and personal and find out more about the different varieties of the humble narcissi as part of Hever Castle’s annual Dazzling Daffodils event.
Hever Castle teamed up with bulb expert Johnny Walkers who along with Head Gardener Neil Miller gave tours and talks.
