The ladies section from Hever Castle Golf & Wellbeing have been representing Kent.
Katherine Giles, who successfully defended her title as Hever Castle Club champion, made her debut for the Kent Ladies 2nd team, playing a match against Surrey at Tandridge Golf Club on 25 July.
In the morning Katherine and her partner won their foursomes match 3 & 2. After lunch, Katherine was pitted in a singles scratch match against a Surrey player with a handicap of 0.7. Katherine matched her more experienced opponent shot for shot, managing to draw the match and gain half a point for Kent.
Although Kent lost the match overall, Katherine said she was proud of being undefeated and represented Hever Castle and its members superbly.
Katherine’s performances were noted last year by Kent as her handicap was dropping quickly. She was contacted by the Kent Ladies 2nd Team Managers in March 2022 and was invited to the Kent County training days, after which she was selected to play for the Ladies 2nd Team. When asked how it felt to represent her county Katharine said
“It was very exciting to know I would be part of the Kent set up and to know I would be representing Hever Castle Golf Club. I have absolutely loved every part of this journey so far and am very grateful to Kent Golf for this experience”.
Katherine’s next match for Kent is against Sussex on the 31 August at Willingdon Golf Club.
The Hever Castle ladies are a busy group with Barbara O Neill recently volunteering at the Commonwealth Games in Birmingham.
