Former shipping container transformed into playground kiosk

Visitors to the playgrounds at Hever Castle now have a new food outlet – Tudor Towers kiosk – selling food, drinks and ice creams.

A former shipping container has been transformed into a crenellated kiosk for those visiting the Tudor Towers and Acorn Dell play areas.

The Tudor Towers adventure playground is bigger than a four bedroom house with its own moat, drawbridge and three turrets. Aimed at children 7-14 it features three slides and two poles and lots of interactive elements.

Acorn Dell is a natural play area aimed at those under 7. It features a willow structure, a giant sandpit, a mound with three tunnels to clamber in and a climbing frame. Located in the trees are two lookout platforms linked by a clatter bridge and with a slide for making a quick escape.

A team of design experts at RDA worked alongside Hever Castle’s caterers, Leith’s to create the new bespoke castle style Tudor Towers kiosk.

Neil Addyman, Director at RDA said: “Our team created a castle aesthetic for the exterior completely transforming the shipping container into a mini castle, using organic materials. An ambient glass counter to display cakes and biscuits and a Barista coffee machine were also installed.

“The result is a welcoming kiosk in keeping with the play area, which offers children and their families a selection of teas, coffees and snacks as well as ice creams and cold drinks for those warm summer days.”

Andrew Hawkes, Deputy General Manager, Leith’s, Hever Castle said: “We are delighted with the new Tudor Towers kiosk. The shipping container sits perfectly in its surroundings and I am looking forward to seeing lots of happy families enjoying the new facility.”

As well as the new Tudor Towers kiosk there is a range of food options available across the estate with everything from freshly made cakes and ice creams to light bites and fine dining.
