The countdown is over and the stage is set. This May Day weekend, The Festival Theatre at Hever Castle opens its 2026 season in celebratory style, marking an incredible 45 years of live performance with a vibrant and unmissable summer programme.

Set within the award-winning grounds of Anne Boleyn’s childhood home, the Festival Theatre’s opening weekend promises a high-energy start to a season packed with music, comedy, theatre and family entertainment. The season will unfold across three of Kent’s most beautiful historic locations, with performances also taking place at Chiddingstone Castle and Penshurst Place.

Festival Director Ailsa Molyneux said: “This is a landmark year for us! It’s out 45th anniversary and we are delighted to be returning with a programme that truly celebrates the diversity of The Festival Theatre. From comedy and music to opera and family shows, there is something for everyone, and we couldn’t ask for a better way to begin than our opening weekend at Hever Castle.”

The 2026 season features an exceptional line-up of talent and productions. Comedy highlights include Alan Ayckbourn’s Relatively Speaking, a live performance from Mark Steel, The Tommy Cooper Show, Just Like That, and the much-loved Abigail’s Party by Mike Leigh.

Music lovers can look forward to performances from Natalie Williams with Motown & More, alongside a wide range of tribute acts celebrating artists such as Ed Sheeran and Taylor Swift, as well as iconic sounds from Strictly Dan, Complete Madness and The Simon & Garfunkel Story.

The programme also embraces theatre classics and open-air Shakespeare, with Romeo & Juliet performed on Anne Boleyn’s Walk, while family audiences can enjoy a packed schedule of matinees including The Jungle Book, Around the World in 80 Days and Treasure Island.

Beyond the stage, audiences can experience some of the Festival Theatre’s most distinctive events, including the return of Midsummer GLOW Fest at Penshurst Place, offering immersive performance, alfresco dining and dancing in a unique historic setting. Much-loved favourites such as the Last Night of the Hever Proms and the Festival’s popular silent disco events also return.

For those looking to make the most of the season, memberships to The Festival Theatre offer a range of benefits, including priority booking, discounted tickets and exclusive access to selected events – an ideal way for audiences to enjoy this landmark anniversary year to the fullest.

The season continues into the autumn with a striking finale as Vox Lumiere reimagines Fritz Lang’s Metropolis with live singers, musicians and an immersive light show.

With its milestone anniversary, a dynamic opening weekend and a programme rich in variety, The Festival Theatre’s 2026 season promises a summer of unforgettable entertainment in extraordinary surroundings.
