Hop through history

Hop through History takes visitors from the age of the Saxons, via the Viking invasion to the Norman conquest, when the first stones of Hever Castle were thought to be laid to Edwardian times when the Astors were in residence.

In the grounds watch the Vikings and the Normans go head to head with weapons displays. Wander around the encampments on the trail of history. In the Castle copies of the Doomsday Book will be on display.

Tudor encampment, re-enactments and stalls with more thrills and spills as our brave knights compete in this year’s Jousting Tournament over the Bank Holiday.

This summer, kids can experience what it was like to grow up and serve in a royal household in medieval times.

Classes include lots of hands-on activities to keep them entertained. Children are encouraged to come in costume to truly immerse themselves as knights and princesses.

These free classes last for around 40 minutes and take place daily at: 11:30, 12:30, 14:00, 15:00 and 16:00.

Knights in training learn how to prepare and protect armour and discover the best way to arm and disarm their master before battle. Princesses are shown the correct way to give a proper and perfect curtsey.

Children will take part in a fun ‘Have a Go Jousting’ activity before being officiated as knights and princesses of Hever. All knights and princesses of Hever will receive a ‘Knight School Certificate’ to take home.

Knights & Princesses School takes place daily until 28 August and is included in normal Hever Castle admission prices; spaces should be booked on arrival at the Information Centre.

The Knights of Royal England return to battle it out at the annual Hever Castle Jousting Tournament. Spectators will be treated to a thrilling show as the brave knights compete for points to find this season’s champion. Witness spectacular displays of action, stunts, falls and fights in an authentic arena complete with Royal Box.

Jousting is taking place on the following dates:

12 & 13 August
19 & 20 August
25 – 28 August
