Tudor Tales

Journey through history

Journey Through History will take you from the age of the Romans, through to the Saxons, via the Viking invasion, right up to Edwardian times when William Waldorf Astor used this fortune to restore and extend the castle.

In the grounds, you will be able to wander through the encampment to watch the Vikings and the Saxons go head to head with weapons displays and see men at arms skirmishes. Step into the Tudor period and immerse yourself in the time when Hever Castle was Anne Boleyn’s childhood home. There will also be the opportunity to watch archery displays from the time of the Vikings through to the Tudors. Be entertained with music from the reign of Elizabeth I and learn how to dance Elizabethan style.

Learn what it would have been like during the Edwardian period and then into World War I. Finally, there will also be an encampment of World War 2 where you can see displays and take part in interactive talks about weaponry and the life of a soldier in WWII.

The popular Summer Jousting Tournament will also be in full swing. Don’t miss the procession from the Castle forecourt as Henry VIII and Anne Boleyn lead visitors through the grounds to the Jousting Arena. Battling it out in the saddle and on foot in one-to-one combat, the valiant knights will then compete for points to find this season’s ultimate champion.
