Castle Update

A painting of the gardens at Hever Castle by former Prime Minister Sir Winston Churchill has been unveiled and is now on display in the Inner Hall. Plus, the Castle curatorial team have been hard at work changing the layout of the ground floor to better tell the history of its ownership.

Now when you visit you will be able to find out more about former owner William Waldorf Astor’s vision for his home.  Immerse yourself in the atmosphere of a drinks reception in the Drawing Room in 1922 with gramophone music playing and learn about the visit of Elizabeth Bowes-Lyon (who became Queen Elizabeth The Queen Mother).

Plus, on Friday 19 May we will be turning Anne Boleyn’s 1527 printed Book of Hours to the page that bears her poignant signed inscription: ‘Remember me when you do pray that hope doth lead from day to day. Anne Boleyn.’ On this date in 1536, Anne Boleyn was executed in the Tower of London after being the Queen of England for only 1000 days. At Hever Castle we will be paying tribute to this enigmatic woman whose story forms an important part of the rich tapestry of the Castle’s history.
