May, the month where the gardens are awoken for summer, the days seem never ending and the temperatures begin to soar (hopefully!). The gardens spark into life with displays of wisteria, azaleas and rhododendrons – it’s most definitely the month to explore the Estate.

Learn about inventors, discover ancient artefacts and find out more about physics and archaeology in three different shows as part of Hever Castle’s new May half term event: Discovery Week.
Come and meet Victorian and Edwardian scientific explorers as they debunk myths and explore inventions from history – what happens when science goes wrong? Find out more about entertaining tricks and the scientific reasons they work.
Get your hands dirty with an archaeological dig – what will you find buried in the sand and mud? Search for Saxon, Medieval, and Tudor artefacts.

This Father’s Day weekend, come and see a display of vehicles from famous F1 champion the late John Surtees as well as displays of cars through the ages.
Plus new for 2021, you can take part in an axe throwing contest with a fun target practice. Don’t worry, this activity is being run by professionals in a controlled manner!
And after all this hungry work enjoy some family time with a variety of food options from a barbecue to pizza and hog roast as well as more hearty lunch options in our two restaurants finished off with ice cream or a variety of mouth-watering homemade cakes.

Step back in time to wartime Britain at Hever’s Home Front at this 1940s event.
Experience the sights and smells of the time with authentic cooking along with displays of US military vehicles. Browse stalls selling vintage wares and refreshments.
Step into the shoes of those during the time by dressing up in period costume. Finish off your outfit with a trip to a 1940s hair salon.
Meet Winston Churchill and enjoy displays of Home Guard drills and period model boats on the Moat, or have a selfie with a life-size model Spitfire.

Hever in Bloom showcases the glorious award winning gardens at the height of their summer beauty. You will be able to enjoy one of the finest displays of more than 4,000 roses in Kent, the Garden of England. Stroll along the herbaceous borders and through drifts of perennials in Faith’s Garden. Wander further afield and enjoy the meadow flowers on Lake Walk.
This year there will be daily floristry workshops at 14:00 where you will be able to create a round floral arrangement in oasis with the guidance of Emma, an ex-gardener at Hever turned florist.

The Festival Theatre is an open air venue set in the gardens of Hever Castle. Located in four open air theatre venues in the grounds: the Two Sisters’ Theatre, the Main Lawn Stage, the Loggia and Anne Boleyn’s Walk.
Tickets are on sale for the Summer Festival which opens at the end of May. Following Hever Festival Theatre’s successful bitesize season last year, they are continuing to socially distance the full programme of vibrant and varied performances. Opera and magic, plays and music acts and plenty of family entertainment there is a full season of delights ahead.

We are so thrilled to announced that the Castle has now reopened! The portcullis has been lifted and we have been welcoming visitors back to the Castle since Monday 17 May.
