Lizi Dent comes from a long line of teachers, her grandparents taught heraldry and ballet, her mother horse riding and her aunts photography, art and pilates; creativity and teaching are very much in her blood.
She fell in love with yoga at the age of 15 after her mum suggested it might help her cope with the stress of her GCSEs, “I instantly loved it! I had a wonderful teacher and it’s helped me through life ever since.”
Lizi finally decided to do her yoga teacher training after an eclectic career ranging from running a cleaning company to working as a trapeze artist for Zippos Circus. “I am not your usual yoga teacher,” she laughs.
She now teaches classes at Hever Castle Health & Wellbeing.
“It’s so wonderful to be able to help people and see them progress. Yoga doesn’t only give people flexibility but boosts their self-confidence and body awareness, it changes people’s lives in a beautifully unassuming way” she says.
“One of my favourite moments of teaching to date was when one of my students proudly proclaimed that after three classes he could now put his pants on standing up.”
The age of Lizi’s clientele ranges from 20 to 70, with a mixture of men and women, and her weekly classes range from a Dynamic Vinyasa flow class to yoga for beginners and Restorative yoga workshops.
She also runs EquiYoga courses with the eminent equestrian Fi Dent and is launching a new yoga class specifically for golfers.
“Yoga improves your flexibility, balance, focus and strength which is beneficial to whichever sport you do. With both the EquiYoga and Golf Yoga we target specific areas of imbalance and muscle groups, to increase performance and results.”
Golf yoga with Lizi Dent starts in February.
Equiyoga runs from 26 February to 21 March and consists of 4 yoga classes in the studio with Lizi and 4 ridden clinics with Fi.
Rest and Digest Restorative Yoga workshop is on 22 February 5-7pm
Tuesdays yoga for beginners 6-7pm, Dynamic Vinyasa Flow 7-8pm
Thursday Gentle Flow 7-8pm.
