Experience Hever Castle in a whole new light with After Hours: Summer Picnic Evenings, a series of exclusive evening openings taking place on four dates this summer.

As the daytime visitors depart, enjoy peaceful access to the award-winning gardens from 6.30pm to 9.00pm, where stunning views of the Castle, live music and a relaxed atmosphere create the perfect summer evening.

Bring your own picnic, blanket or camping chairs and settle down on Half Moon Lawn while listening to live music, enjoying traditional garden games and making the most of the beautiful surroundings. Whether you’re planning a family evening out, catching up with friends or looking for a romantic summer setting, there’s plenty of space to relax and unwind.

Take an evening stroll through the gardens, soak up the spectacular lakeside scenery and experience the estate as the setting sun transforms one of Kent’s most beautiful historic landscapes.

Do I need to book in advance?

Yes. Advance online booking is essential as tickets are limited.

Can I buy tickets on the gate?

Tickets may be available on the gate, subject to availability. As numbers are limited, we strongly recommend booking online in advance to avoid disappointment.

What’s included with my ticket?

Your ticket includes exclusive evening access to the gardens from 6.30pm to 9.00pm.

Please note that during this event the Castle, restaurant, cafés, shops, playground, Yew Maze, Water Maze, Lake Walk, Woodland Walk, indoor attractions, boating and archery will not be available.

Is this event suitable for families?

Absolutely. Half Moon Lawn will be the heart of the evening, with live music, traditional garden games and refreshments, making it the perfect place for families to relax and enjoy a summer evening together. If you’re looking for a quieter experience, there are plenty of peaceful areas throughout the gardens to enjoy a stroll or picnic.

Do Annual Members receive discounted tickets?

Yes. Reduced ticket prices are available for Annual Members. You’ll need to enter your membership numbers when booking online and present your membership cards on arrival. If you’re unable to provide a valid membership card, the difference to the full admission price will be payable.

Can I use a complimentary ticket?

No. Complimentary tickets are not valid for special events.

Are partner offers accepted?

No. Partner offers are not valid for special events. This includes, but is not limited to, Tesco Clubcard Vouchers, Historic Houses, RHS, Gardeners’ World and Armed Forces offers.

Why is there a booking fee?

As with many special events, a booking fee helps cover the additional operational costs of delivering this exclusive experience.

I am staying at Hever Castle’s Bed & Breakfast or Medley Court, how do I book?

If you have booked to stay in the luxury Bed and Breakfast or our holiday cottage Medley Court on one of these evenings then you will be given admission tickets on arrival to enjoy the After Hours experience during your stay.

Can I bring a picnic?

Absolutely! Bring a picnic, along with a blanket or camping chairs, and make yourself at home on Half Moon Lawn or find a peaceful spot elsewhere in the gardens.

Can I bring my own chairs?

Yes. You’re welcome to bring folding or camping chairs, along with picnic blankets, to make yourself comfortable during the evening. Please be considerate of other visitors when positioning your chairs.

Can I bring alcohol?

Yes. You’re welcome to bring your own alcohol and it will be available to purchase on the evening. Please drink responsibly.

What food and drink will be available to purchase?

Drinks, doughnuts, pizzas and ice creams will be available to purchase throughout the evening from Half Moon Lawn.

Can I bring a BBQ or camping stove?

No. BBQs, disposable BBQs and camping stoves are not permitted anywhere in the grounds.

Where will the live music take place?

Live music will take place on Half Moon Lawn from 6.45pm–7.45pm and 8.00pm–8.45pm, creating a lively focal point for the evening.

Will there be quieter areas away from the entertainment?

Yes. While Half Moon Lawn offers a vibrant atmosphere, the wider gardens provide plenty of peaceful spaces to explore. Enjoy an evening stroll through Anne Boleyn’s Walk, Diana’s Walk and Sunday Walk, or simply find a quiet spot to relax with your picnic.

Can I bring my dog?

Yes. Well-behaved dogs are welcome in the grounds provided they are kept on a lead at all times. Water bowls will be available around the site. Please clean up after your dog and, during hot weather, consider whether it is appropriate to bring them and never leave them in a parked car.

Can I bring a bike or scooter?

For the safety of all visitors and to help protect the gardens, bikes and scooters are not permitted within the grounds.

Can I leave and re-enter the event?

Yes. If you need to leave the grounds during the event, please speak to a member of staff before exiting, who will advise you on the re-entry process.

Can I take photographs?

Yes. We encourage you to capture your evening at Hever Castle and share your photos using #heverafterhours. Please be mindful of other visitors when taking photographs.

Is the event accessible for wheelchair users and pushchairs?

Yes. The event is suitable for wheelchair users and pushchairs. If you require any assistance, please let a member of our car parking team know on arrival. Further information is available in our Access Guide.

Is parking included?

Yes. Parking is free for all visitors.

What happens if it rains?

The event will go ahead in most weather conditions, so we recommend dressing appropriately for the forecast.

Tickets are non-refundable, non-transferable and cannot be exchanged unless the event is cancelled by Hever Castle.

If severe weather creates a safety risk and the event has to be cancelled, ticket holders will be contacted by email. Where possible, an alternative date will be offered. If this isn’t possible, refund requests will be considered on a case-by-case basis. Please note that booking fees are non-refundable.

What if it’s a very hot evening?

The event will go ahead during warm weather unless conditions are deemed unsafe. We recommend bringing sun protection, staying hydrated and considering the welfare of young children and dogs. Drinking water will be available on site.

I’m visiting Hever Castle during the day. Can I stay for the evening event?

No. The grounds close to daytime visitors at 6.00pm and reopen for After Hours guests at 6.30pm. A valid After Hours: Summer Picnic Evenings ticket is required to attend the evening event.

Always check details before traveling. Hever Castle reserves the right to close all or part of the Castle, grounds, catering outlets, and activities, and to change or cancel any events. Please note that the use of partner offers may be restricted or not valid on event days.
