field of cloth of gold: June 2020 – CANCELLED

June 2020 marks 500 years since King Henry VIII and King Francis I of France hosted an elaborate festival near Calais to improve relations between the two rivals.

The meeting lasted from 7-24 June 1520 and was one of the most impressive, lavish meetings ever to be held between the two kings.

Present at this famous event were the Boleyn family, who lived here at Hever Castle. Thomas Boleyn, one of King Henry’s most dependable diplomats, was entrusted by Henry with proposing this famous meeting to King Francis.

To celebrate, each weekend in June 2020 you will be able to take part in an event centred around the Field of Cloth of Gold including Tudor dance demonstrations, lessons, food stalls and more.
