Bringing a picnic and wondering the best place to lay your blanket?

Catalpa Lawn and Horseshoe Lawn provides a perfect setting with sun and shade and a picturesque Castle view. Half Moon Lawn is another popular choice with views of the pond, fountain and pretty bridges across the moat.

Venture further afield and you will discover Two Sisters’ Lawn adjacent to the Theatre which is surrounded by delightful flower beds and an abundance of ornamental trees.

Or for some really special more secluded spots follow signs for Lake Walk. Here you will find a variety of picnic areas, many of which have been mown especially for picnickers. There are areas overlooking the lake where you can watch the boats and birds, others that are surrounded by long grasses that gently blow in the breeze and some that overlook landmarks such as the Loggia, the Japanese Tea House and Anne of Cleve Bower House follies and at the right time of year, the stunning Meadow Flowers.

Picnic benches are also scattered throughout the grounds.

Before your visit, we recommend that you download a copy of the map.
