Hever Castle Golf Club are delighted to announce that as part of ongoing investments from the estate’s owners they are planning to replace all of the course’s ‘Greenside Bunkers’ with the industry leading ‘Eco Bunker’.
The Eco Bunker offers an attractive revetted bunker popularised in the Kingdom of Golf itself (Fife) during the 19th Century as a means of preventing wind erosion. Whilst most links courses feature revetted bunkers out of necessity (including all Courses on the Open rota), these can be sympathetically added to Parkland Courses, indeed bunkers themselves are added to inland courses to mimic the dunes found on the original Links courses.
This modern incarnation of bunkers uses stacked sod walls of artificial turf providing a robust and hard wearing solution whilst very much providing a traditional look.
Eco Bunker have completed a number of successful projects across the world, including renown venues such as TPC Sugarloaf, Royal Guernsey, the newly constructed and much lauded Dumbarnie Links in Fife and more locally at Chart Hills to name but a few.
This will be a multi-year project and will involve like for like replacements as well as resizing some existing bunkers and relocating some altogether where it is felt that a hole can be improved. The Club is working closely with the experienced design team from Eco Bunker to produce a comprehensive plan, we look forward to sharing aspects of this with you in due course.
In combination with the ongoing Tee Redevelopment work and irrigation projects to improve Summer conditioning, Hever Castle Golf Club are hugely excited about the transformative effect this will have on the golf experience.
