Hever Castle’s Assistant Curator, Dr Owen Emmerson features in a new series: Blood, Sex and Royalty on Netflix.
Blood, Sex and Royalty, due to air on 23 November, is billed as “a modern take on the British royal drama, this steamy series offers a window into the lives of history’s deadliest, sexiest and most iconic monarchs.”
The three part docu drama features monarchs including Anne Boleyn and Henry VIII.
Acting from Amy James-Kelly, Max Parker and Adam Astill plays out alongside historical commentary from Owen, Dr Lauren Mackay, Dr Suzannah Lipscomb and Dr Tracy Borman.
Owen was interviewed about Anne Boleyn as part of the first episode of Blood, Sex and Royalty.
Part of the exteriors of Hever Castle also features in Blood, Sex and Royalty following filming at the childhood home of Anne Boleyn on Friday 27 May.
Owen said: “It was an honour to be asked to be one of the on-screen historians explaining the history behind Netflix’s new Anne Boleyn drama. I was immediately drawn to the project because it promised to tackle Anne Boleyn’s story in a fresh and innovative way. The producers were also determined to show Anne Boleyn’s important role in the political and religious upheaval that was necessary to make her Queen. I was thrilled that Netflix came to Hever to film the beautify exterior of the castle for this exciting new series. Hever Castle played such an important part in Anne Boleyn’s story and I hope that its inclusion in the new series encourages people to come and explore this unique historic property for themselves.”
