The results of the LandLove Magazine Awards 2014 have been released and we are delighted to announce that Hever Castle was placed 2nd in the Britain’s Favourite Family Day Out category.
Over 25,000 votes were cast across the twelve award categories to help LandLove magazine celebrate the very best things about the British countryside.
Reviewers on TripAdvisor concur with this accolade, describing Hever Castle as “a great day out for all the family” (Matthew H. Sep 2014), and a “brilliant family day out” (S. J. Aug 2014). Leaving a review on Facebook, Lauren Arezumand said she “had a lovely day today at Hever Castle great fun for the family the jousting was brilliant” (Aug 2014).
With three mazes and an adventure playground, you’ll be hard pressed to know which to visit first. Situated by the Castle forecourt and measuring 6,400 square feet, the 100 year old Yew Maze is one of only a few traditionally designed mazes in the country.
The Water Maze offers a fun challenge for young and old alike with the goal to reach the stone grotto in the centre without getting wet. Set in the Adventure Playground area, the Tower Maze is an educational and adventure play experience suitable for children aged approximately 7-14 years. Only those that solve the riddle of the maze can reach the slide and Henry’s Queens hold the key.
Whilst out and about in the grounds, enjoy feeding the many birds across the Estate with the special bird feed available to purchase from the Information Centre. Generally a friendly bunch, we recommend you mind your sandwiches when the swans are about!
Well worth a visit, the Miniature Model House Collection, accessed via the Hever Shop, is a fascinating collection of 1/12 scale model houses illustrating the development of English country houses through the ages, from Tudor to Victorian times.
In addition the grounds offer plenty of space for kids to run around or for picnics, and we have special events scheduled throughout the year and during all main school holidays. Our restaurants and cafes offer tasty treats, and the shops stock plenty of kids toys and souvenirs for all ages.
Enjoy a family day out at Hever Castle from Saturday 14th February when we re-open for the 2015 season. You can keep up to date with our events throughout the year in the What’s On section of the website, and can save money by booking tickets online.
