Visitors to Hever Castle over Christmas helped raise over £6,000 for the Human Milk Foundation.
They were able donate to the charity when prebooking tickets online, through collection pots onsite and staff also donated during a preview event.
Members of the charity were also at Hever Castle on the weekend of 10/11 December to talk to visitors about what they do and sell merchandise.
The Human Milk Foundation provides donor human milk to sick premature babies in over 50 NHS hospital neonatal intensive care units across England & Wales and to families at home such as mums with cancer and other health conditions through The Hearts Milk Bank.
Felicity Webster, Director of Communications said: “We’ve seen a 100% increase in the need for donor milk since the beginning of the pandemic so we are incredibly grateful to Hever Castle for choosing us as their Christmas charity for 2022. This support will help raise vital awareness of our work and the funds raised from this event will help us provide donor milk to more babies in hospital and at home.”
For online donations for visits from 18 November to 2 January a total of £5,929. was raised for the charity. The total for the collection pots is yet to be counted.
During the Christmas event, visitors witnessed the enchantment of the Castle, gardens and lake festooned with fabulous colours and twinkling lights. They could wander further afield for a trip into ‘space’ where the bright moon shines and illuminated planets filled the evening skies.
In front of the Castle, there was also a chance to ride the gallopers on the carousel and a a big wheel offering views across the grounds.
The new ‘Festive Forest’ trail saw Red the squirrel meeting his joyful woodland friends and discovering the true meaning of Christmas. Visitors could also meet Huskies or Owls in the grounds.
