Dazzling Daffodils 20 – 24 March 2019
Visitors will feel uplifted this spring during Hever Castle’s Dazzling Daffodils event. With 14,000 new daffodil bulbs set to bloom across the gardens, there will be a wide range of varieties to enjoy.
The daffodil event will throw the spotlight on the narcissus family and showcase the new and the best in daffodils.
Visitors will also have a chance to see a rare double daffodil in woodland not usually open to the public. Narcissi Telamonius Plenus, or the ‘double daffodil’ dates from 1620 and has rarely been seen growing in the wild in the UK this century.
However, CEO Duncan Leslie came across various groupings of this extraordinary bloom in Park Wood while out walking his dogs.
The event will also see tours of the Hever daffodils, including Anne Boleyn’s spectacular Orchard which are some of the oldest on the estate. Visitors will be given a tour of the grounds, including the Orchard, by bulb legend Johnny Walkers and Hever’s head gardener Neil Miller*.
An exciting new development for 2019 sees Hever Castle open up Park Wood to visitors so that they can see the untouched carpet of bluebells. This area of the grounds is usually closed to visitors but as soon as the bluebells bloom, the gates will be opened and visitors will be able to take their families and their dogs on a magical walk through the woodland.
*Visitors to Dazzling Daffodils will get the chance to take a guided tour on the 20th, 21st and 22nd, with Johnny Walkers and Neil Miller. The 23rd and 24th of March will be dedicated to daffodils too with tours provided by Hever’s gardeners and a children’s craft workshop. The gates to Park Wood will remain open throughout the Dazzling Daffodils events and Hever plans to keep them open until the bluebells.
