Ladies golf: Hever Castle Golf & Wellbeing is keen to encourage more women to join the club and Christine Speed is the woman who is on the ball.
Christine, who has been a member at the club for the past three years, has recently joined the committee as New Ladies Member Liaison and is the first point of contact for any new female members.
When asked about ladies golf she said: “I am keen to promote the club. It’s a nice club. I would like to encourage more women members.”
Christine works very closely with Membership Manager, Steve Clayton and Director of Golf, Peter Parks on encouraging ladies to join the club or to upgrade from a 9 hole membership to an 18 hole membership.
She explained: “When they know of a new lady joining I introduce myself and offer to have a coffee with them and the other 18 holers or try the championship course.
“It’s a challenging course in a beautiful setting but suited to both experienced players and those new to the game.”
Christine started playing golf when she retired in 2015 and played at public course, Chelsfield Lakes before deciding she felt confident enough to join a more challenging course.
She said: “I chose Hever as the ladies were very welcoming and I liked the course. The clubhouse is lovely and the course is well maintained.
“I am keen to promote Hever as a good place for ladies to play. I want to see the section prosper. We have about 60 members who enjoy playing golf socially but not always in competitive matches. We want to increase our numbers and encourage more ladies to take part in competitive golf.’
Professional Sam Pitcairn also runs Operation 36 Women’s Academy for women getting into golf.
The 8 week coaching course which runs at different times of the year involves sessions covering the basics of the game as well as 4 playing days on the 9 hole course.
