Record breaking year with over 420,000 visitors

April 03 2024 | Castle Garden

Hever Castle & Gardens had its best ever visitor numbers in 2023 with another record breaking year.

Last year 421,724 people visited the childhood home of Anne Boleyn, an increase of 0.42% on the previous year (419,969).

Christmas at the Castle was 6% up on the previous year and May was a record month.

In the Castle a new exhibition Catherine and Anne: Queens, Rivals, Mothers showcased the similarities between Catherine of Aragon and Anne Boleyn.

Visitors were able to see a prayer book belonging to Catherine of Aragon (on loan from the Morgan Library in New York) followed by a newly discovered prayer book of Thomas Cromwell’s (on loan from the Wren Library, Trinity College, Cambridge).

New Haunted History Tours at Halloween offered visitors the chance to experience Hever Castle after dark and experience ghostly stories.

Nearly £20,000 was raised for the Alzheimer’s Society and Hospice in the Weald as part of a Charity of the Year partnership with staff fundraising, collection pots and optional donations on online bookings.

Hever Castle & Gardens is now open for another busy season in 2024 with new event, Celebration of Spring (15 – 28 April) highlighting blooms from blossom to bluebells.

Events throughout the year include Easter, Jousting, Halloween and Christmas with discounts and priority booking for annual members. With 150 acres of award winning gardens, two Mazes, exciting play areas, two cafes and picnic spots aplenty there is so much to entertain the family for the whole day.

On 26 June a newly re-interpreted apartment on the first floor of the Castle will be opened named the Boleyn Apartment. It will be the only known surviving suite of rooms in the world that the Boleyn family definitely occupied.

Rich fabrics will cover the walls and friezes will be added as well as coats of arms. Authentic furniture will be in the new suite of rooms.
