What’s on in October

October – perhaps the best time of year to see Hever Castle with the glowing autumn colour. The Boston ivy which adorns its walls goes through a dramatic and dazzling transformation this month as the leaves slowly turn a deep brooding red. Acers, oaks and ironwood trees light up the skies with magenta, yellow and fuschia leaves. The crisp autumn air will have you feeling totally immersed in the season, so have some fun, pop on your welly boots and kick up the fallen leaves!

With the nights drawing in, grab a pen and paper and start planning an autumn to remember, and with the festive season just around the corner – you can start planning an outing to Christmas at Hever Castle too.

Explore what’s on this October and over the upcoming months:

Autumn Colour

As the air turns crisp and a rich display of autumn colour envelops the countryside; pack your wellies and head to Hever Castle. Enjoy the crunch of leaves underfoot and spectacular autumn hues.

The summer perennials may have faded, but the riot of colour in the grounds has only just started. Across the grounds, shades of orange, magenta, and yellow hypnotise at every turn. Be dazzled by the vibrant tones of acers, whilst the historic Chesnut Avenue will have you feeling fully absorbed by autumn’s beauty.

It’s the season to enjoy the tumble of leaves from the trees, early morning mists and mellow fruitfulness. So pack your walking shoes and head for Hever this autumn for a day to remember.

Collect an Autumn Colour Trail on arrival to learn about trees of note and interest and to discover some of the best colour hotspots in the grounds.

After an unfortunate delay, we’re very excited to announce that this autumn we will be unveiling a new adventure playground.

‘Tudor Towers’ is set to be bigger than a four bedroom house with its own moat, drawbridge and three turrets. The giant structure will feature three slides and two poles and lots of interactive elements split into three houses: Hawk (Astor), Bull (Bullen/Boleyn) and Squirrel (Waldegrave).

Children will be able to experience a castle under siege with one side left incomplete as if is under attack! With a cargo net to climb, cries of archers and a drawbridge there’s plenty to keep the kids occupied.

There will also be a Dining Hall with room for Henry VIII and his six wives complete with the homely sounds of a crackling fire. Tudor Towers will feature multiple different entrances and exits including a hidden Priest Hole.

As well as instruments to play, a roof maze to solve and hidden boxes to find, it will be sure to entertain everyone from the younger child to the teenager.
