JUNE EVENTS AT HEVER CASTLE
Summer has just begun, it’s time to get out and explore!
Dad’s favourite day of the year, Father’s Day, is just a couple of weeks away. This year we’ve got a fantastic display of supercars as well as a number of food offerings which are guaranteed to tickle his fancy.
And arguably the best time of year to see the gardens is upon us. Hever in Bloom takes centre stage at the end of June. Not only is it considered our rose week – the best time to see the beautiful blooms; but a riot of colour runs through the grounds, making it the perfect time of year to visit for garden lovers and wanderlusters alike.
With summer so close, why not start to plan your family days out. This month we’re hosting Hever’s Home Front. Go back to the wartime era with a replica full size Hurricane, dancing and vintage stalls. The jousting season is also just around the corner, see full details and dates on the jousting pages.
Hever Castle Golf Club is hosting a Membership Preview Month for the whole of June, plus our luxurious holiday cottage has some last minute dates if you are in need of a staycation.

Step back in time and experience a taste of wartime Britain at Hever’s Home Front in this 1940s event.
Experience unique living history from the Home Front in a classic double decker bus containing reconstructions of a 1940s living room, shop, bombed out street and air raid shelter replicating the sights and sounds of the time.
Move 1940s style with a swing dance in the tea dance tent, tap your toes to music from vocalist Miss Annie or browse stalls selling vintage wares and refreshments.
Get into the nostalgic spirit by dressing up in period costume with prizes for the best dressed visitors. Finish off your outfit with a trip to our 1940s hair salon for a fitting do.
Meet Winston Churchill and enjoy displays of period model boats on the Moat. You will even be able to have a selfie with a grounded life-size model Hurricane.
Say thank you to dad this Father’s Day with a memorable Super Car themed day out at Hever Castle & Gardens.
This two-day event is supported by the Alfa Romeo Owners Club and Ferrari Owners Club of Great Britain with a stunning selection of Alfa Romeos on display on Saturday 16 June and fabulous Ferraris on Sunday 17 June.
Children can make a car themed keyring in a free craft workshop or have their faces painted. Visitors aged 7-14 can explore the Tudor Towers adventure playground with its own moat, drawbridge and three turrets. It features three slides and two poles and lots of interactive elements including musical instruments, a floor maze and hidden boxes to find. Other things for families to enjoy including the challenge of the Yew Maze or the popular Water Maze (but don’t forget to bring a towel!)
And after all this hungry work enjoy some family time with a variety of food options from a barbecue to pizza and hog roast as well as more hearty lunch options in our two restaurants finished off with ice cream or a variety of mouth-watering homemade cakes.
Hever Castle’s annual garden event showcases the glorious award winning gardens at the height of their summer beauty. Enjoy one of the finest displays of more than 4,000 roses in Kent, the Garden of England.
This year visitors will be treated to a scented tour of the rose garden and be given the opportunity to try delicious dishes infused with rose oil and rose petals.
Our Head Gardener Neil Miller says: “we love to take visitors around the sumptuous rose garden in June and this year we will be delivering a tasty experience – one based on the heavenly scent of the roses and the myriad of culinary possibilities.”
The tour has been extended to include the newly planted border beside the theatre containing damask roses grown by poet Emily Dickinson in her own garden at ‘The Homestead’ in Amherst, Massachusetts. The inspiration for this area of the garden came from Hever’s owners, the Guthrie family, and Mrs Guthrie’s love of Emily Dickinson’s poetry.
The Castle will also be adorned with roses and beautiful displays will fill the rooms.
The Knights of Royal England return to battle it out at the annual Hever Castle Jousting Tournament. Spectators will be treated to a thrilling show as the brave knights compete for points to find this season’s champion. Witness spectacular displays of action, stunts, falls and fights in an authentic arena complete with Royal Box.
The annual Summer Jousting Tournaments begin at Hever castle on 14 and 15 July.
Jousting is taking place on the following dates:

The Hever Shop offers a wonderful selection of carefully chosen items for you and your home including unique mementoes and gifts inspired by the Castle and the Gardens.
There’s a fabulous selection including prints, gorgeous cushions, jewellery, scented candles, and our exclusively designed Anne Boleyn china set by Christopher Dawson Heritage. The china set has been based on the elaborated illustrated borders of Anne’s Book of Hours, one of which she is believed to have taken to her execution at the Tower of London.
Having only recently launched, our online shop is selling a small selection of items in comparison to the main shop. However, depending on the success of the online store we hope to grow the range that is available to buy online.
